Telemedicine Helps Heal the Balkans, Remotely

Telemedicine Helps Heal the Balkans, Remotely
June 15, 2016

June 15, 2004

Large parts of the Balkans region known as Kosova (also called Kosovo) were destroyed five years ago during civil strife between Serbs and ethnic Albanians.

In the devastated area, Dr. Rifat Latifi is building a “telemedicine” program that is one of the most technically advanced in the world.

NPR’s Alex Chadwick speaks to Latifi, who is also director of tele-surgery at the telemedicine program of the University of Arizona, about his work in Kosova.
